Our Legacy

Chartered on August 28, 1984, the Alexander Majors Chapter of the Missouri Society, SAR, was named for the grandson of Beal Kelly, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. By today’s standards, Alexander Majors himself would have been eligible for SAR membership.

As the founder of a pioneering freight company, Majors played a stellar role in establishing commerce and transportation routes between the Western boundary of the United States and the Southwestern regions of the continent. His contributions to the development of Kansas City and his steadfast code of ethics made his name the natural choice for a chapter located in Kansas City, Missouri.

Our Roots

Our first meetings were held at the restored antebellum farmhouse at 83rd Street and State Line Road—Alexander Majors’ original home. We began with fourteen charter members, a dedicated group of transfers and dual-members committed to the SAR mission.
